On this evening volunteers from the Greater Lawrence Young Professionals Network helped over 25 high school students navigate the college scholarship process. They shared guidelines, best practices, and were on hand to answer questions.

The Greater Lawrence Young Professionals Network along with ALPFA Boston hosted a discussion about how corporations and non-profits can cultivate leadership and how young professional can be a part of the solutions. Featured speakers included: Rosalin Acosta, Managing Director - Enterprise Investments Advisers; Joe Bator, Senior Vice President - Eastern Bank; and Yvonne Garcia, Senior Vice President - State Street Corporation. The event was well attended by over 150 guests.
GLYPN's 1st Annual Gala

The Greater Lawrence Young Professionals Network organized and hosted its first annual gala to celebrate the organization's accomplishments, members, and community partners. Over 100 guests enjoyed a fun-filled evening, which included a cocktail reception, dinner, music, raffles, and many networking opportunities. The event was a great success and raised over $6,000 to be used to support GLYPN programming.

GLYPN members and guests celebrated the holidays with treats and a gift swap while raising funds for local families in need. Funds raised were donated to Lazarus House in Lawrence.

Joy Mosenfender of the Merrimack Valley Time Exchange joined GLYPN to talk about her organization. We learned about her non-profit that seeks to actively stimulate the local economy with an innovative approach that also fundamentally strengthens social interactions within the community. It was a fun-filled evening of hands-on activities and great networking!
Resume Workshop

Young professional volunteers helped over 30 high school students draft and edit their resumes, and prepare for successful futures through a series of mock interviews! Senior students who attended this workshop were encouraged to attend GLYPN's Scholarship Workshop in the spring, where they will receive insights on how to apply for scholarships.

GLYPN volunteers joined Family Service, Inc. for their annual mentoring event. "Mentor for a Day" gave young professionals the opportunity to mentor a Lawrence youth for the duration of a day. During this time, they had the opportunity to bond and participate with their mentee in an array of camp activities. It was lots of fun and a great experience for both mentors and mentees.

GLYPN hosted an evening of networking for members and guests at Tekila's Mexican Restaurant in Methuen. Attendees had an opportunity to engage with each other while enjoying some Mexican dishes. Afterwards, they joined in the evening's regularly scheduled karaoke night.

GLYPN hosted an evening of fun networking and dancing at Terra Luna. Members and guests had the opportunity to mingle and learn more about the organization. Afterwards, local dance instructor Temi Devers showed attendees the basic steps to dance salsa and everyone had a great time practicing.
Cardio Kick-Ass

Owner, trainer, and fitness expert Wander Morel welcomed GLYPN members and guests and led them in his amazing Cardio Kick-Ass workout. The event helped attendees to get thinking about ways to make time for health and fitness in their busy, professional lives.

GLYPN organized an evening of fun networking, food and drinks for its new and prospective members. The event was well attended and showcased our host and newest business member, El Taller.

The event was focused on introducing new members to the organization, networking with other professionals in the area and discussing upcoming community events in the Greater Lawrence area.

We also presented the newest business members; they included Enterprise Bank, El Taller, Cafe Azteca and Law Office of Zoila M. Gomez.
Comcast Cares Earth Day Clean

Several members of GLYPN joined Groundwork Lawrence for the Comcast Cares Earth Day Clean-Up. They donned green t-shirts and set out to clean up Pemberton Park, where they joined forces with another small group and several middle and high school students. Upon finishing up at Pemberton, they also worked on an area on Broadway Street. It was a beautiful, sunny day, and it felt great to help clean up the beautiful city of Lawrence.
Greater Lawrence Young Professionals Kick Off

GLYPN hosted its first annual Kick Off event to commemorate the network’s growth as an established non-profit organization and to examine its goals for the future. The event took place both in the Essex Art Center and next-door Chester’s at Bell Tower Square.

Board members gave a presentation on GLYPN’s demographics, past activities, goals, and future plans. Attendees were encouraged to join in the effort to promote growth and success for residents in the Greater Lawrence area by becoming official members of the network. We also presented our new website, www.GLYPN.org.
A Community Panel Discussion on the State of Lawrence K-12 Education
and Best Practices Used in Local Schools

As the state take over of Lawrence Public Schools has brought much attention to the local education system, GLYPN provided a venue where education professionals and community members came together to openly discuss the overall state of Lawrence K-12 education and the challenges faced by teachers and administrators.

Parents, educational professionals and GLYPN members explored and shared strategies that can be initiated or expanded to contribute to the positive transformation of the LPS system. Finally, GLYPN members interested in exploring involvement the schools to help promote student success were able to connect with key education system personnel.

STEM Networking Night

The Greater Lawrence Young Professional’s Network hosted a mixer catering to young professionals working in the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (S.T.E.M.) fields. The theme of the event was “Personal Branding & Networking Skills,”

The event featured Mr. Ronald Wagago as a guest speaker and presenter. Mr. Wagago is currently a Technical Marketing Engineer at Cisco System. Mr. Wagago is a member of the National Society of Black Engineers where he has served under several chapter positions including Secretary, Parliamentarian, and Vice President. Currently Ronald is the co-lead for the Cisco Black Employee Network (CBEN) and is the 2012-2013 Chairman for the Region 1 Alumni Executive Board of NSBE.
Gaston Study

GLYPN teamed up with Northern Essex Community College to sponsor and host a presentation by the Gaston Institute which highlighted the latest data on the demographic profile of Latinos in Greater Lawrence including data on education, health, and economic development. Attendees also discussed areas of concern, growth and opportunity for the Latino community in the region. Lastly, the presenters also shared policy practice recommendations intended to improve the prospects of Latinos in the region.
GLYPN’S Unplugged Mixer

GLYPN's "UnPlugged" mixers give attendees the opportunity to speak with local leaders & entrepreneurs in a social, relaxed environment. Last May’s event was held at Café Azteca, a well-known establishment that draws individuals from the region to sample the same authentic recipes used in Mexico.

The guest speaker was Attorney Zoila M. Gomez, a local business owner who teaches law at Northern Essex Community College. Attorney Gomez also sits on the Board of Trustees for the University of Massachusetts, serves as Board President of the Youth Development Organization.
